Designer’s Statement

Curriculum is a body of work that explores my childhood, my study of surfaces, and the outcome of repeat manufacturing. I wanted to capture and convey these memories through relief-style tiles of varying scales, raising questions and evoking memories associated with childhood, as well as rituals and experiences involved in shaping me.

My process for this series started with a deep dive into my core memories, which I expressed through 2D illustrations and motifs. These illustrations were then modelled on CAD software to create 3D tiles based on a pre-decided sizing system. The models were 3D printed & hand finished, followed by a process of silicone mould-making. Each tile was meticulously hand-cast in materials of choice (plaster/concrete) and de-moulded after the curing stage. The cast tiles were finally clad over the surfaces for which they were designed.

The resulting small-sized tiles in a low-relief style allow for intricate detailing and tactile dimensionality and, when arranged and mounted on surfaces of varying sizes and shapes, create a mosaic.

The objects are a mix of functional and sculptural pieces.
