DESCRIPTION:PAVING THE WAY IS AN EXHIBITION OF RARE ARCHIVAL MATERIAL CELEBRATING THE INDIAN TILING INDUSTRY\n\nThe past few years have been witness to a plethora of conversations and exhibitions around the architectural diversity of Mumbai. This narrative\, unfortunately\, is incomplete and excludes another\, less-documented area: the interiors of the city’s iconic buildings which were as stylized as the exterior. Flooring and tiles\, whether industrial or hand-crafted\, have added to the character\, heritage\, and utility of the structures they were laid down for.\n\n\nWhat role did tiles play while designing a space? How did different patterns align to the wide variety in architectural styles? How were they made and what ensured their durability? What were the popular colours and patterns? Curated from archival material sourced from the archive of the Bharat Flooring Tiles\, this exhibition attempts to answer these questions\, spark a discussion around the floors we walk on every single day\, and expose audiences to the nuances of the tiling industry.
