Overview

Outside is a group exhibition that brings together work by Chatterjee & Lal artists alongside historical material made by artists working across the 20th and 21st centuries. With the genre of landscape painting providing a touchstone, works in a variety of media are presented.

Ideated in the pandemic, this exhibition is conscious of the fact that for the foreseeable future, many regular visitors will not be able to see the exhibitions with the same frequency that used to be possible. To address this, rather than a static, singular display, Outside develops and morphs over time. With the intent to tease out different ways of accessing an artwork, a series of displays are mounted over the duration of the exhibition: some works retained from one display to another, in other cases new works added.
